I started using Fetch because a friend referred me, and I like the idea of scanning receipts and playing games for points. It feels like a fun extra, even though it may take a while before I can cash out anything. Still, I can’t help but wonder what the catch is. Some people report losing points when they try to cash out gift cards, with Fetch saying the Terms of Service were broken. Others say they never had this issue, especially if they cash out small amounts like $10 instead of waiting for a $50 card. The mixed experiences make it hard to know what’s real. I wonder if problems come from people scanning receipts that aren’t theirs, since that’s not allowed. I block out my name on receipts, and I’m not sure if that could cause trouble later. So far, my experience has been fine, but I’m cautious about whether Fetch is selling data or if there are better, more ethical apps to use.

I started using Fetch Rewards in 2017, and it was excellent for the first few years. Back then, 25 points equaled 2.5 cents exactly, and it replaced my need for paper coupons and Ibotta. Over time, though, the value dropped. They stopped partnering with Huggies and Kotex, and now you often need to spend $20 or more on major brands to earn 1500 points, which may or may not equal $1.50. The points have been devalued multiple times. I recently cashed out my last $50 gift card and deleted the app. For me, it’s not worth it anymore, especially considering the amount of personal information you give them. They now promote games, and while some people may find that fun, the tradeoff is your data. With data breaches happening even at companies like AT&T, I don’t trust this app to keep mine safe. After years of use, I’ve decided to call it quits.
